These Are The 10 Types Of People Most Likely To Cheat On You

It’s everyone’s worst nightmare: after you fall in love with a fantastic person and settle down together, you discover they’ve been cheating. But maybe you could have seen it coming with the help of some science. In fact, studies have shown that these ten types of people might be the most likely to betray you – read on and learn just who they are…

10. The social media addict

If you find your partner spending way too much time on social media, it might be time to worry. That’s because a study published in Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking in 2014 found that “the more often a person uses Twitter, the more often they have relationship conflicts… culminat[ing] in cheating, breakups and divorce.”

The theory goes that people who dedicate too much time to social media aren’t spending enough time on their relationships in real life. So you should perhaps watch out if your partner is always on Facebook fishing for likes.

9. The househusband/wife

It might surprise you to learn that married people are apparently more likely to have an affair if they rely financially on their partners. However, researcher Christin Munsch from the University of Connecticut conducted a study which suggested that there’s a 15 percent chance that men who are dependent on their wives will cheat.

The Guardian newspaper reported her as saying in 2015, “We don’t really like inequity, and there’s probably something about masculinity that means men really don’t like it.” Money talks, then.

8. The guy whose age ends in nine

If you’re with someone whose age ends in nine, your relationship could be at more risk. Data taken from the affairs dating site Ashley Madison revealed that a disproportionately high number of the site’s male cheaters were about to turn 30, 40, 50 or 60 on their next birthday.

As a result, it’s thought that men who are approaching a big milestone age – or perhaps a midlife crisis – are particularly at risk of cheating. So choose that birthday present carefully…

7. The overly affectionate partner

Think you’re safe because your partner is all over you? Think again, because sex therapist Mary Jo Rapni has some unsettling advice.

“When a man starts cheating, he becomes hyperactive sexually,” Woman’s Day quoted her as saying in 2015. “Because his sex drive has been aroused, he starts craving more intimacy – and when his mistress isn’t around to satisfy his needs, his wife becomes the next best thing.”

6. The teacher

When it comes to professions of people who have affairs, you’re more likely to be cheated on by teachers, apparently. Indeed, studies from multiple infidelity dating sites have found that many teachers admitted to affairs, often with others in their field.

The thinking behind this is that teaching is a very stressful job, so individuals in that profession may be more likely to cross the line with colleagues. There’s definitely a lesson in there somewhere.

5. The stockbroker

According to cheaters’ dating website Victoria Milan, people who work in finance – such as bankers and stockbrokers – seem to be pretty prone to conducting an illicit affair. In fact, one 2011 study even reported that there’s a 72 percent chance that bankers will cheat on their spouses.

That’s a pretty high figure. So when you hear on the news that there have been a lot of ups and downs on the financial markets today, you’ll know exactly what they mean.

4. The settled-down couple

It probably doesn’t come as a surprise to many that couples who are in long-developed relationships are more likely to cheat. After all, the greater the time you’ve been with someone, the less likely it is that they’ll give you any more surprises. Not only that, but the passion may fade, too.

“Cheating usually occurs in the phase of companionate love, when couples begin to settle down, have kids and solidify the life being built together,” psychologist Andra Brosh told Woman’s Day in 2015. Basically, when things settle down – in other words, get boring – people start to look elsewhere.

3. The risk-taker

Back in 2003, Marianne Quick from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom studied the connection between personality traits and cheating. And, interestingly, she claimed to have discovered that infidelity and risk-taking behaviors are actually linked.

And as a consequence, people who are likely to seek adventure and thrills might get their kicks instead by having affairs. If you are dating a snowboarder, then, you could be on a slippery slope…

2. The doctor

In 2016 Victoria Milan surveyed more than 5,600 women. And for anyone dating a doctor or nurse, what the website discovered must have been a bitter pill to swallow.

Because according to the survey, healthcare professionals are among the most likely workers to cheat on their partners. Indeed, the research unfortunately gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “the doctor will see you now.”

1. The powerful

A paper published in Psychological Science in 2011 suggested that people in positions of power are likely to cheat. This probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone with even a passing interest in politics.

The researchers concluded that this was because “power increases confidence in the ability to attract partners.” Furthermore, the results were the same for both men and women.
